Default CSV file?

Who can tell me all about using CSV for bulk upload?
Vendio uses it, and bisi is going back to it, so I need to learn it.
I tried to download the 'sample" from Vendio, and being that i have a squeaky new computer, I have nothing compatible to open it with, so what program do I need?
help, please.

If you don't have Microsoft Office on your computer, you can download some free software called "Open Office". I use it on one of our computers since I was maxed out on my Microsoft Office installs. It will open your csv file in a spreadsheet format that is easy to read and edit. Open Office has several functions which mimic the MS Office but they are named different. I think the one that is similar to MS Excel to open a spreadsheet is called Calc or something like that but I'm not positive.

When you make edits, just be sure you save it as a .csv file.

I have office.
When I clicked on the download to open it as a csv file, it didn't work.
I opened excel, and opened it that way, added in some junk, saved it as a csv, and tried to upload, but no go.. am I missing a step or 3?

Okay, this is something I have read about, but I have never taken the time to learn.
Guess now would be the time.
More reading, my head is already hurting. p:|

It is simply amazing to me of how computer stupid I can be.
Not only is my work I do with my spreadsheets something I can convert into a CVS file...

But, I found out I have MS Excel on my computer. I just never looked to see what all was on this computer.

But hey, I am learning, give me points for that.

One of these days I will stop long enough to learn everything I need to learn, and figure out what all I have on this computer.

Is this a bisi upload or a vendio upload? Most "sample" downloads have bogus product ids or category ids that may need to be replaced with the real deal for your own store before they can be uploaded.

I think that if you right click on the download and choose "Open with.." you can select Excel. I believe it will open by default in notepad unless you select something else?

I keep saying that too!.... I never do it. I am CONSTANTLY learning on the fly on a "need to know" basis. Oh well... it's been working so far and I haven't found anything yet that I couldn't learn, given enough time.

it's vendio, and there are no default items listed..I'm going to add some product in, and try it again. Maybe I just put it in wrong or something.
i was able to open it finally with excel.. so we'll see!
